Solar Night Lights vs. Electric Nightlights / Power Outlet Nightlights
First, I am the inventor of the SolPals Solar Powered Hybrid Nightlights/Flex Lights. I have spent the last three years developing these lights. My a-ha moment was when I noticed my young children are attracted to the nightlights thus the power outlet. I started to do some research and found several disturbing facts about the Power outlet nightlight. See below:
1. 7 children per day are treated in the emergency room from electrical outlet accidents and boys are the highest risk.
2. In and average year, Consumer Product Safety Commission receives about 10 reported incidents where nightlights were cited as being responsible for fires.
3. 80% of all injuries associated with electrical outlets occur in your home.
4. 65% of all electrical outlet injuries are on the hand.
5. 70% of Children under the age of 2 receive burns to their mouths from electrical outlet accidents
6. Electrical accidents results in an estimated 1,000 deaths per year of which 200 are children.
7. If 100% of children in the USA used SolPals night light we would save around $150 Million a year in power consumption revenue.
8. If 100% of children in the USA used eclectic nightlights we would use 1.1 Trillion kWh which would power 107,784 homes each year.
I have been completely oblivious to the potential danger to my children and home. So, I did a little more digging on the danger and found a US Consumer Product Safety Commission document#5063 which outlines only one immediate danger of the standard power outlet nightlight “the location of the nightlight”. You can read the article by visiting my website at the following link:
In the next year I will provide several informative resources of the dangers of nightlights. It’s my hope that you will look at our solar powered lights as an alternative solution for your kids lighting / nightlight needs. And know that our primary objective is to lighten up the night with the power of the sun, because NO child should be left in the dark.
To learn more about our products please visit our website at www.solpals.com we will begin to sell our lights towards the end of first quarter of 2011.
